Help us combat insecurity among QC and CUNY students this Giving Tuesday

This year on Giving Tuesday, Queens College is taking action to fight any insecurity QC and CUNY students may be facing. Whether it is food or clothing needed, the Knights Table is there to help set students up for success and alleviate the burden of worrying about when or where their next meal will be or how they will interview for a job. By supporting the Knights Table, you too can help combat this devastating issue that has plagued an unfortunate number of members in our community.

We began this fight in the fall of 2018, and since then the Knights Table Food Pantry has given relief to thousands of QC students and their families facing hunger. However, there is much more work to be done. Food insecurity not only affects our students but our city as a whole. As inflation costs began to skyrocket, food pantry and soup kitchen visits in New York are up nearly 70% in comparison to 2019. There are approximately 1.5 million New Yorkers that are facing food insecurity, including one in four children—a 36% increase since 2019.

According to an Insider Higher Ed Career article, “In a voluntary survey the University of Washington recently conducted of students who have used the closet since its February opening, 82% said the clothes increased their confidence at professional events—including interviews and networking meetings—and 73% said it decreased the stress of preparing for those events.”  In October 2024 the Knights Table Food Pantry was rebranded to the Knights Table, which encompasses a pantry, and now our professional closet called the Knights Armory. The mission of the Knights Armory is to increase student’s confidence when going for a job and break down barriers for students to reach their full potential, making students feel confident as they navigate through their journey as professionals.

By participating in this year’s Giving Tuesday, you can:

  • Help reduce food insecurity among QC students and their families by providing food and other assistance.
  • Improve nutritional education on campus and in the communityRaise awareness about the programs and opportunities provided by the Knights Table.
  • Provide students with toiletries such as shampoos, soap, detergents.
  • Boost students confidence on interviews with business clothing.
  • Provide students with feminine products as they are a necessity and not a luxury.

Tomorrow depends on the difference you make today. Make that difference on Giving Tuesday.
